I have two from back in the day!

I have two cars that I am looking to improve the audio in.  Both have factory standard head units and speakers etc, both are poor even as standard.

Keeping the original HU and slotting the amps in to boost the output, initially to the factory speakers, was my first stage.

However, am I better off, for ease/SQ, simply upgrading the HU with a modern higher output, or even the option of a poor-pack upgrade like the Alpine?

I figure the amps should probably best a standard HU but technology improves yearly and a few manufacturers offer purported 4x55 or more which should easily push a set of factory speakers?

upgrade the unit to a pioneer 80prs etc and use the amp will be lovely no doubt, the old kit is often the best. the rms power on aftermarket units is usually about 20w
