Three billboards - shite.

Jumanji - really funny.

I, Tonya - shite.

Suburbicon - dark and twisted.

SW The Last Jedi - pew pew pew. Old characters both Goodies and baddies die. Introduce their related backup. Pew pew pew.

Paddington 2 - Hugh Grant the sociopath.

The Shape of Water - proof women will fuck anything.

Stuff I’ve watched in the last week or so:

Film:

Loving Vincent - technical master piece, 64,000 oil paintings created by 115 artist over 2 years

Blade Runner 2049 - get the UHD, view on an OLED Screen with a good sound setup if you can, visually stunning and a superb sound track that is quiet when it needs to be and really engrosses you.

TV:

Jessica Jones season 2 on Netflix, bit of a slow burn to start with but it’s starting to build now.

Wild Wild Country - Bit meh kinda boring in the first ep

Altered Carbon - basically Blade Runner they TV Series, amazing money spent on sets and effects.

Comedians in cars getting coffee - some interesting and funny interviews with comedians

Black Lightening - first ep a bit meh, ep 2 gets much better plus cool soundtrack

Watched jumanji, as per recommendation, good twist on the 'old' one.

Oh also, if you want a bite sized, pretty funny show I'm making my way through Brooklyn Nine Nine.

Not going to set any records, but it's pretty good / funny without being the utter gash that most comedy serial shows are.

Watched The Tick and Jean Claude Van Johnson on Amazon Prime, both very stupid but very funny. Got to add in This Country on BBC iPlayer. I thought this was awesome. The main character is certainly a homage to Gareth from the office. Worth a watch if you've not already/

Film wise just watched Annihilation on Netflix, which I enjoyed. Also recently watched Get Out which i really liked.

Altered carbon - tits

Sneaky Pete season2 - can he pull off another con?

Downsizing - what is it with films leaving endings open?

Homeland season7 - just getting started.

Justice League - DC movie on TV budget. Hope AquaMan restores confidence in DCEU.

Get Out - definitely recommend this, says it's a horror but I'd say more gripping thriller with a little bit of blood near the end.

Vikings - Awesome, sets & story lines are great.

The Walking Dead - getting on a bit now but at least it's the final season & we get to see what happens to Neegan.

The Avengers Movie - Typical over budget CGI fest, don't think just watch.

YouTube Channel recommendations - Bright Insight & Ancient Architects - both will open your eyes about what you think you knew about where human history has come from. Very interesting.

Yoga Hosers - crap but in the good way

Tusk - um, 'memorable' I'll leave it that

Jennifers Body - bit meh

My Neighbour Totro - fits well with the strange films I watch this week.

Nearly done rewatch Weeds on Netflix, missed the later seasons, it just keeps spiralling into worse and worse situations.

The only thing I've seen recently that I really enjoyed was Detectorists, written by Mackenzie Crook, Wicked theme music (and a clever cameo appearance) by Johnny Flynn also.

What annoys the shit out of me is the trend now not to be able to produce a TV show with a satisfying ending to the last episode, because they are all hankering after multiple series/seasons, even when it would work much better as a one off, without stringing the story out and seriously diluting the quality.

A case in point was a recent series on the BBC called Requiem - looked like there would be a good ending, but once again it just left more questions unanswered, so I expect a second series will be commissioned, when really the story was a little thin to last 6 episodes, let alone 6 more.

Detectorists is just one of the best, funniest, most subtle comedies I've seen in ages. I absolutely loved it.  Pretty gutted that there almost certainly won't be a fourth series but then, I'd rather it bowed out on a high note than turned to shit.

Currently I'm watching the second series of Santa Clarita diet on Netflix, which is brilliant.

Also, Lucifer; which is such a cliche'd police procedural / murder of the week load of old nonsense but with the added bonus of the quirky partner being the literal devil. It shouldn't work but the guy who plays Lucifer carries the whole thing and makes it very enjoyable. :)

Another one I've just started is The Defenders on Netflix. Bit of a slow start Think I'm about 3 or 4 episodes in and it's really warming up. A darker than the films in the MCU - by which I mean more swearing, and more blood.

Actually, Jessica Jones and Daredevil (also on NF) were both great.

Never bothered with Iron Fist or Luke Cage, but other than a few character references I'm not picking up I don't think I'm missing anything from The Defenders by not having watched them.

Counterpart - JK Simmons on TV with 2 realities. 4 episodes in. It’s good.

Homeland S7, slow. Getting good now. Caught up though so weekly now.

2 episodes in.

See what you mean.

There is no good or bad. It’s a good story.

Started watching Dark on Netflix – mystery thriller type show with sci-fi thrown in. Pacing is a bit slow but it looks good. Native German language, dunno how bad the English subs are as I’ve not got them on. I believe there is a dubbed audio track though.
