Hi all,

My mums car is dead and the mechanic says it'll cost £2.5k to fix so probably not worth repairing. Its a 2003 Ford Mondeo TDCi. She hasnt got any money to fix it and has had loads of problems with it so its probably worth getting rid of. How much she'll be able to get for it for scrap if it has a knackered engine? Or alternatively sell it to a mechanic who would be able to repair it as a project and sell it on?

Probably looking at around £200 scrap value, although I haven't weighed anything in for a while so I'm a bit out of the loop with prices.

Best bet would probably be to stick it on eBay and take whatever it fetches.

I got £140 for an old micra, so I should think more than £200, but yeah, stick it on ebay and you'll get plenty more than that I'd imagine

Around £200 scrap or ebay it and it will possibly see around £500 ish to someone who can repair it.
Whats wrong with it for a repair bill to be 2.5k

I don't question my sanity anymore, my sanity questions me.....

How knackered is it? 2.5k is bullshit, I'm sorry, I could put a replacement engine in and repair pretty much anything on a Mk3 TDCI for 1k or less.

Find a new garage. Even a turbo replacement is £6-700.

Tell us the symptoms and I reckon we can help.

You could try and sell it to DEVICES?
You think you've got a hold of it all
You haven't got a hold at all
When you reach the top, get ready to drop
Prepare yourself for the fall, you're gonna fall
It's almost predictable

Two of the issues I had cost £14 and around £150, all may not be lost. Recon injectors aren't terrible money, the high pressure bit of the fuel pump is though.

As said post up the symptoms and any fault codes, a few of us have/had TDCi Mk3's on here, some with issues and some with none.

I'd say it'd be worth putting in on ebay with an honest description and plenty of pictures. You'd see £400-500 for it, even if its going to be broken for parts etc.

EDIT: If you were local I'd have given you more than scrap value for it, without a doubt. I know all sorts of special fixes to problems. Broken turbo actuator? 10p fix. :D

To quote one member here, ebay, 99p No Reserve and given a good clean for plenty of photos. It is surprising what spares or repairs cars fetch on it.

Don't be too harsh on the garage... They probably just don't want the job! It's hard saying no to people when they're without transport. 2.5k is about as much as saying no.
200sx, project in progress...
