Google showed me the interesting poll in: Talk Audio Forums > Car Audio General > General Car Audio.
The original poll/question: "Is 3dB, 6dB or 10dB double the SPL?" is still here to find, but it was closed to answers by an administrator; see:
http://www.talkaudio...ad.php?t=256999

The overwhelming answers of the poll are really wrong.

The correct answer is: SPL means Sound Pressure Level. 6 dB more of this level means the double sound pressure.

We have the subjectivly perceived loudness (volume), the objectively measured sound pressure (voltage), and the theoretically calculated sound intensity (acoustic power):

Here is a helpful link:
http://www.sengpiela...levelchange.htm

Doubling of the volume (loudness) should be felt by a level difference of 10 dB − acousticians say.
Doubling the sound pressure (voltage) corresponds to a measured level change of 6 dB.
Doubling of acoustic power (sound intensity) corresponds to a level change of 3 dB.

Cheers ebs

PS:
6 dB represents a doubling of sound pressure.
6 dB represents a doubling of voltage (RMS amplitude).
6 dB less SPL means a doubling of distance.
3 dB SPL increase requires double the power.
3 dB represents a doubling of sound intensity.

from a Precision Power manual:

"Before beginning, disconnect the negative (-) terminal of the battery prior to working on the positive (+) terminal to prevent a short to ground. This is important, unless you want to spend the rest of your life with a nickname like "Sparky," or "Smokey." Reconnect the negative terminal only after all connections have been made".
